About Rita Onwodi

Welcome to Rita Onwodi BSW, MSW, RSW Counselling & Psychotherapy Services

For over 20 years, Rita has been committed to providing her clients with compassionate culturally relevant and supportive therapy to help them with many life challenges. Through client-centred counseling with a focus on Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Rita provides a safe collaborative and supportive environment in which she helps her clients with recognizing and understanding the patterns which are not working for them, assist her clients in developing strategies and healthy coping skills to deal with these issues, as well as, techniques to prevent the problems from reoccurring. Rita works with adults, teenagers and seniors, couples and families experiencing psychosocial difficulties, cross-cultural struggles and mental health crisis.

Rita is a Registered Clinical Social Worker and Psychotherapist with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW): Member in good standing #817368.

 Rita is also a Contract Instructor at the Carleton University School of Social Work, where she is currently teaching fourth-year students and Master of Social Work students in advanced clinical practice skills. Rita is fluent in English. 

Her professional specialties include: depression, anxiety, self-esteem, mental health crisis, family therapy, relationship difficulties, workplace issues, career and life transitions, Solution Focused Therapy, Emotional Focused Couple Therapy, Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Christian counselling, and grief counselling.

In addition to being a psychotherapist, Rita has worked as a Clinical Social Worker at The Royal  Ottawa Healthcare Group in the Mood and Anxiety Crisis unit and the Forensic Assessment Outpatient unit. Rita has also worked as a Case Manager at Veterans Affairs Canada and she is currently in full-time private practice and teaching at Carleton University School of Social Work.
